Eduvigis ‘Edith’ Banzon Yenko

Eduvigis ‘Edith’ Banzon Yenko, 87, of the Philippines, passed away on the 15th of May, 2021 after a 5 month battle with surgical complications.

Edith was born on January 27th, 1934 to her parents in Bataan at the height of the Japanese Occupation during World War II.

She graduated from the University of the Philippines with a degree in Pharmacy.

Soon after she met her first husband Raquel, and had a lovely daughter, Solita. Unfortunately, he passed well before his time.

Thereafter, she met and married Abing, whom she raised two more loving daughters with, Patricia and Ana. They also had a son, Len-Len who passed away at 4 years old.

Through life’s ups and downs, Edith was a hard worker: from Pharmacist to home business baker and food caterer, to real estate agent. Edith made sure her family was provided for.

Her children excelled in their own ways and through it all, she was there to witness and support them. She was the mother who prayed unceasingly for us. Ever caring, ever the thinker, she remembered everyone’s birthdays. So empathetic was she, that she could form bonds with complete strangers through the flow of a few good words.

She served well in the church, just as she did in any household she dwelled in. Her love of food and cooking got the better of her quite a few times, with many a kitchens littered with the signs of a few good meals. A decent trade-off, for some of the town’s finest home cooking.

Edith was passionate about serving the Lord, and in her final years in her home country, dedicated herself to the local chapter of the Legion of Mary, as shown on her prayer altar to this day.

When she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found at the local market, striking a deal or two, and bringing home the freshest ingredients of her homeland, all for a hearty meal for her family.

We will miss her greatly.

She is survived by her three daughters, Solita, Ana, and Patricia. 9 grandchildren Mandah, Muma, Christina, John, Lucas, Lucian, Sarah, Kirsten, and Meghan. And 4 great grandkids Kirsten, David, Xander, and Angelle.

We love you Mama. Rest and dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
