Suzanne Smyk

d. Oct 1, 2026

It is with a sad heart that we share with you the passing of our mom, Suzanne Smyk.

Suzanne passed away at the age of 87 early Thursday morning, October 1st, 2026. We all had time with mom recently. Christine (Chris and Jeff just visited last week), Laurie had dinner with her on Wednesday evening, and Nadine was with her on Sunday. Michael had his regular chat via phone. It was Alzheimer’s that eventually claimed her life.

But it will be with pride and love that we share the memories of her life. Suzanne was a strong woman. She would tell you she lived many lives. From her early years in Timmins to the joys of life in Windsor, the adventures in Toronto, and all those places in between. And she loved them all. Her strength carried her through some difficult years, and she always landed on her feet.

She would say that her greatest achievement was with her children and that her most successful career was being a mother. And she was a phenomenal mother. Mom loved so many people; her brothers and sisters (their spouses), children, grandchildren, sons-in-law (Jeff and Bob), nieces and nephews and friends. She loved her life. She loved good coffee and good red wine. But mostly she loved any time she could combine family, food, and drink.

She asked that after her passing, you would raise a cup of good coffee, or a glass of good red wine, share a memory, and toast her. What a wonderful tribute to our mother.

We are so grateful to the Rekai Centre family of caregivers, who during mom’s last years, became her extended family. Their kindness and compassion were very much appreciated by mom and her family. We are so thankful.
