With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Riccardo (Rick) Vottero on May 10th, 2025. Though born and raised in LaSalle, QC, Rick lived a full and adventurous life that reached far beyond the borders of his hometown – one defined by curiosity, humour, generosity and an unwavering dedication to the people in his life. Rick was a devoted and loving father to his two children, Ryan and Alyssa, who were the light of his life and remain his proudest legacy. He is remembered, with love, by his sister Bonita & niece Olivia; his father Lou & stepmother Patricia and former-spouse and dear friend Tessa; and by many other friends, colleagues, and extended family around the world whose lives were so much brighter because of him.

An Acadia University alum, Rick was a trailblazer in the early days of the fintech industry. As a BASE24 developer, he built an international and distinguished career, working in countries like Sweden, Ireland, Croatia, Malta, Slovakia, England, Poland, Montenegro, Canada and the U.S. His professional accomplishments were many, but his technical expertise was matched only by his ability to bring people together, no matter where in the world he found himself.

Outside of work, Rick was a passionate sports fan — a loyal supporter of Arsenal FC. Some of his happiest moments were spent outdoors on a golf course or gathered around a table, sharing stories — often with a cigar or a drink in hand — surrounded by people he cared about. His sharp wit, easy laughter, and open-hearted nature made him a joy to be around.

He gave freely — not just of material things, but of his time, his wisdom, and his love. Whether helping a friend in need, mentoring colleagues, or offering support without hesitation, Rick’s kindness was quiet but constant — a natural extension of who he was. His compassion and presence left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Rick’s impact on the lives of those around him was profound. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
