Michael joined the Toronto Police Force as a Cadet in 1969 and continued for 28 years of service as a First Class constable taking an early retirement in March 1996. He was stationed Downtown at 52 division and in his last few years of service he did 4 years at the Toronto Island Police station where he learned to cook and clean alongside his best friend PC John Bills (deceased 2025).

In the summer of 1969 while driving a Police Motorcycle for the Summons Bureau, he stopped in at the ZINGBURGER restaurant where he Met Judy where she was a waitress. His regular order was a Cheeseburger & Strawberry Milkshake. He continued to come in every day to order his Lunch. Then on the infamous date of July 20th. 1969, the night of the MOON LANDING, (while off-Duty) he stopped in and was watching the TV along with the rest of the staff. Judy then invited Mike to come to her Home to continue watching this very Historic event into the Wee Hours of the night. This became their first "Official" Date.

With his love of singing, he was convinced to join the Toronto Police Male Chorus. They performed shows in Senior Retirement homes and various Choir competitions in Southern Ontario as well, an Annual trip to Cleveland, Ohio. One of the highlights of the Chorus, was the Home opener of the 2nd year of the Toronto Blue Jays in 1978, the Chorus sang the national anthem on the pitcher's mound, where they played on the grounds of the CNE. Another highlight is when they joined Rita McNeil in Concert at Maple Leaf Gardens and sang backup for the "Working Man" song. Michael loved singing Karaoke at the Police Assoc. private members Club and various Karaoke venues. His signature song was "Mack the Knife", and from time to time Judy would join him on stage singing a duet, "You don't bring me flowers" and "I got you babe". His favourite pet was an English bulldog named Brittany. Another pastime was going to Casino Rama to play the slot machines. One time, after a large win, he was nicknamed

"Mr Lucky Pants", because each time he went to play the Slots & Won, he happened to be wearing the same lucky pants and always came home a winner.

In March of 1996 at the age of 45 he then decided to try out a new "Fun" part-time-job as a DJ . He was successful doing this as "MRSANDMAN" for 4 years on the Mariposa cruise lines in Harbourfront, along with a few Weddings with the assistance of his wife Judy. When the lifting of the DJ equipment became too much, he happened to see a job fair for Woodbine Slots opening up in 2000. For Fun, he decided to apply and was Surprised that He was hired as a Slot Attendant and continued working for 10 years and made a lot of new friendships.

Michael finally retired for good in 2010 where he enjoyed watching the Toronto Blue Jays, History channel and Classic old movies.

In the last 2 years his hobbies changed over to collecting various styles of watches. It grew into a very huge collection, even setting up a workstation with tools and accessories to fix them up, he was given a new nickname by his wife.... "Gepetto".

Michael was proud of the accomplishments of his Daughter, and Son and being called "Poppa" by his 3 Grandchildren. For Summer Holidays the family rented the same Cottage for 18 years, alongside Judy's Sister Linda's family. Once again, singing many songs around the campfire each night, as well telling many jokes and funny stories of his days on the Police Force,

Michael's favourite saying after telling a story was "And, Bob's your Uncle" (British humor).

The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life on Sunday June 14th, 2026 from 1PM to 4PM , located at 55 Huntingdale Blvd, Scarborough, M1W 2N9, in the Social Room, on the ground floor. (ENTRY CODE 537). Visitor parking at the rear of #55 Huntingdale.
