Meryl June Feeney

1946 — 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Meryl June Feeney (née Atkinson), who left us peacefully on November 15, 2025, in Scarborough, Ontario, at the age of 79, after a courageous battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Meryl was a devoted mother, spouse, Nana, daughter, sister, and friend whose life was defined by love, kindness, and selflessness. She always put family ahead of herself and brought joy to every gathering with her warm smile, gentle spirit and elegant fashion.

Beloved daughter of Marjorie Atkinson (née Burgess) and Allen Atkinson (both deceased), and cherished sister of Allen Atkinson, Beverly Atkinson McNabb (deceased), and Chris Atkinson (deceased). Loving partner of Franklin (Frank) Dunn, who stood by her side with unwavering love and support throughout her  illness. Together, they shared over 35 years together with countless cherished moments and a deep love for family.

Meryl was the proud mother and step-mother of Alison Feeney-Rodgers (Eric Rodgers) and Brent Feeney (Julie Feeney), Matthew Dunn (Catharine Dunn), Richard Dunn (Sherry Dunn), and Vanessa Dunn (Katie Ritchie). She was a treasured Nana to Adrian, Ariana, Ashley, Charlie, Connor, Henry, Jack, Jane, Jason, and Violet, and a loving Aunt to Joseph (Joey). She will also be remembered fondly by many dear friends.

She came to Canada as an infant with her War Bride English mother who had married a Canadian soldier during World War II. Throughout the years, Meryl loyally maintained her mother’s English traditions and a love of all-things British. Meryl’s first marriage was to Gordon (Gord) Feeney, with whom she spent 20 special years, had two children, and treasured her time as a member of the fun and boisterous Feeney family, Memories she carried with her for her remaining years.

Meryl was a dedicated stay at home mother to her children for their formative years. She volunteered her time at her children’s’ school and could be seen in the school library honing her administrative skills and instilling in the students her love of reading. Meryl later entered the workforce, starting at entry-level and working her way up through late-night studying and constant up-skilling, resulting in a fulfilling career at Prudential Insurance, London Life and Great West Life (now Canada Life) where she met many life-long friends and colleagues.

Meryl loved family gatherings, music, dancing, and her yearly trips to Florida. She was a gentle soul - one of those rare, extraordinary people whose presence left an incredible mark on everyone she touched. Her beauty, kindness, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the excellent care provided by the staff at Scarborough General Hospital and for the incredible support and comfort they gave our mother and our family those last weeks.

A celebration of Meryl’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada in her memory.
