June 5, 1949 – May 1, 2021
Beth died on May 1, 2021 after several years of declining health – she was 71. Beth was born in New York state, the 2nd daughter of Dr. Frank Gaines and his wife Jerry. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Margaret Gaines Haley. She is survived by her partner of 40 years Bob Dryden and their daughter Meg Gaines Dryden.
She moved to Canada in the early 1970’s. For most of her life Beth was a journalist and she worked for CBC, on air and off, for almost 30 years, in Saint John, Halifax, Windsor and Toronto. Beth was one of the inaugural anchors of CBC Newsworld when it launched in 1989, and was host of “The World This Weekend” and a contributor to other programs on CBC Radio.
Cremation has already taken place; as per Beth’s wishes there will be no burial service. A celebration of Beth’s life will take place at a later date.
