Mari Grace Horgan

1934 — 2026

Mari Grace Horgan, born July 17, 1934, passed away peacefully on April 17th 2026 at the age of 91. She was the oldest of four beloved children of Josephine and Joseph Liscio and was preceded in death by her siblings Columba (“Bunny”), Josie, and Danny.

On June 4, 1956, Mari married Richard Horgan in Toronto. They shared 55 years of marriage until his passing in March 2020. Mari began her career at Bell Canada at the age of 16 as a telephone operator and, through dedication and capability, advanced into management roles. She remained committed to the company she valued until her retirement in the late 1980s.

She is survived by her sons, Rick Horgan (and his wife Mary) and Randy Horgan. She also leaves behind her grandson Travis Horgan( his wife Brooklyn) and her beloved granddaughters, Kacey Miranda (and her husband Rodney) and Taylor Ketchell (and her husband David), whom she loved deeply, and four great-grandchildren: Hailey, Blakely, Rory, and Kaylee.

In the 1970’s, Mari and Rick purchased a cottage on Lake Scugog in Caesarea, Ont. Mari treasured her home there. She and Rick hosted several Family Picnics in the summertime. This special place was haven for rest, relaxation, fishing, campfires, listening to music, summertime antics and always a good time.

In her spare time, Mari loved watching and getting caught up in the drama of her favorite soap operas, “The Young and the Restless” and the “The Bold and the Beautiful”. You could also find Mari caught up in a game of solitaire or spending hours on the phone talking to her granddaughters. She loved dabbling on her computer. She was always curious and was up for the challenge to tackle the new places technology would take her. And her granddaughters remind “you could never go to Nana’s house without finding a container of jujubes or a box of muffins on her computer desk to satisfy her sweet tooth.”

Mari will be remembered as a strong and deeply private woman. She faced many health challenges with quiet resilience, never seeking attention or burdening others. Ahead of her time, she was a working mother who built a meaningful career in an era when many women did not. Her strength, independence, and understated determination leave a lasting legacy for all who knew her.

She will be greatly missed!
