Margaret Elizabeth Yaccato passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026, at the age of 86, following a long list of medical ailments. She was in the Palliative Care Unit at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto, with her family by her side and in spirit.
Born on May 20, 1939, in Greenfield Park, Quebec, to Pearl and Joe Yaccato, Margaret grew up in a lively family of six children. Though money was often tight, their home was rich in love.
She would go on to become the family’s matriarch and guiding light—everyone’s North Star, whether they were 3 or 83. In difficult times, she was the one her family turned to, offering unwavering support and unconditional love without judgment. Margaret was a rare combination of intelligence, wit, warmth, and strength—feisty, funny, generous, and endlessly curious, always placing family first.
For more than three decades, Margaret built a distinguished career as a marine insurance broker, earning a reputation for her sound advice and candid, straightforward approach. Outside of work, she embraced life fully: traveling the world, delighting in beating everyone at cards, cheering passionately as a devoted sports fan, and bringing joy to her family as an enthusiastic and talented cook.
Though her roots ran deep in Montreal, Margaret’s devotion to family knew no bounds. Ten years ago, when her brother Bruce became seriously ill, she uprooted her life to move to Toronto and care for her “baby brother,” a reflection of her steadfast love and loyalty.
Margaret is deeply mourned by many friends and a large and devoted family. She is survived by her brother Bob (Pat); sister-in-law Judy; nieces Traci (Kevin), Karin, Joanne (Michael), Lori, and Amy (Bruno); nephews Jeff (Jackie), Michael (Christine), Jerry (Brigitte), Christopher (Leslie), Matthew, and Ben; and her cherished grandnieces and grandnephews Krystal, Vanessa, Kathleen, Sarah-Michelle, Samantha, William, Kristin, Cole, Leo, Raffa, Amedeo, and Zaire.
The family thanks The Neighbourhood Group and the medical teams who supported Margaret in her final years with a special mention to her ex-sister-in-law, Jennifer Rae. Margaret has been cremated, and in keeping with her wishes, there will be no funeral service.
Those wishing to honour her memory may consider donating to Michael Garron Hospital or The Neighbourhood Group.
