Margaret Joan Cassidy

July 14, 1935 — June 1, 2026

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our mom - (Margaret) Joan Cassidy, who died peacefully in her sleep on June 1, 2026. Mom was 90 years old.

She was born in Newcastle, New Brunswick, to the late Vivian and Hudson Taylor, the eldest daughter in a family of seven.

Mom leaves behind her husband, (John) Jack Cassidy, with whom she shared more than 63 years of marriage and who will miss her terribly. Our parents’ love and partnership was the foundation of a life filled with family, friendship, and many many cherished memories.

Mom is lovingly remembered by her children - daughters Daphne Jill Jaques (Ken) and Sue Cassidy (Jody Prentice). Sadly she was predeceased by her son Ian Macknight (Ann). Mom was a very proud grandmother to Angus, Ryan (Megan), Meg (Andrew), Heather (Gregor) and Jamie – who she spent many years loving and spoiling! She was also a new great-grandmother to Nora and Sullivan.

Mom was the oldest child in a big family of brothers and sisters; predeceased by her brother Roland (Audrey) and sister Debbie (Reg) and survived by David, Gail, Garth (Diane), and Mark (Joey), along with many extended family members.

Mom was an active volunteer for many years – in particular for Joseph Brant Hospital, the Carpenter Hospice, and Port Nelson United Church. She loved music – and both sang in choirs and played piano.

Music is a passion she shared with Jack and they spent many hours listening to and playing music throughout their life together and in every place they called home – from New Brunswick and Montreal, to Sydney, Australia, to Toronto and Burlington.

Mom will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and fierce dedication to those she loved. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a good friend to many. Her warmth, caring nature, and quiet strength touched the lives of all who knew her. She was a straight shooter with an infectious laugh and wicked sense of humour, and she had a steely determination when she felt passionately about something or someone.

While her passing leaves us sad, we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace.

At Mom’s request, there will be no formal service at this time. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date in Newcastle, New Brunswick, where family and friends will gather to honour and remember her life.

Forever loved, always remembered.
