Passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025
At Etobicoke General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Lorain (Lola) Joesephine Barylo, who left us peacefully on the morning of August 4, 2025, at Etobicoke General Hospital. She was surrounded by the love and presence of her family.

Lorain was predeceased by her beloved parents, Michael and Alexandra (Szpiech) Barylo, whom she cared for devotedly in their later years. She shared an especially close bond with her mother, and her dedication was a testament to her selfless nature.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved by her children, Teresa (Alex Kaklamanos) and Christopher Stawiarski, and lovingly remembered by her sisters, Christine Dow and Diane (Stuart) Foster. Lorain leaves behind her cherished niece and nephews, Danusha (Christian) Foster-Pengelly, Rob Dow, and Brett Foster, as well as her great-nieces, Kinga and Avalon Foster-Pengelly.

Lorain possessed incredible inner strength. During her final seven and a half months, she endured frequent hospital stays while fighting bravely against failing health. Throughout it all, her family stood steadfastly by her side. She knew she was loved—and she was. Her dear friend Angie was also a comforting presence, bringing mango pudding and sweet treats, even staying overnight to be with her.

A woman of warmth and generosity, Lorain had a passion for gardening, filling her home with vibrant flowers and lush plants. She found joy in simple acts of kindness—like cooking up pierogi for her niece Danusha during medical school visits, or volunteering as Danusha’s first “patient” as she pursued her dream of becoming a doctor.

Lorain was always kind-hearted and would do anything for her family, friends, and even strangers. Family meant everything to her.

In her final month, Lorain spent time at Malton Village Long-Term Care Residence, where she found joy in the small things. She delighted in cuddling therapy animals that visited and lit up the room during the Italian Festival, where she led the residents in song with infectious joy—her face beaming with pure joie de vivre.

True to her generous spirit, Lorain gave the gift of sight through the donation of her eyes for transplantation, ensuring that even in passing, she continued to help others.

Lorain's infectious laugh, strength, and unconditional love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
