Celebrating Kathleen Irene Weis, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 19, 2026.
Born in Budapest, Kathy was famously private about her age, insisting, as only she could, that a Hungarian woman never reveals it! She lived a life defined by courage, curiosity and an enduring zest for life.
In the wake of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, she left Hungary as a refugee, eventually making her way to Canada and building a new life for herself from the ground up.
She was a natural entrepreneur, first making her mark in Toronto's fashion world before discovering a passion for real estate, where her warmth, determination and way with people made her remarkably successful. But while Kathy accomplished much in her life, those who knew and loved her will remember her most for who she was.
Kathy was elegant, charming, curious and kind. She was genuinely interested in people and had a wonderful way of making them feel welcomed and cared for. She wanted to know about their lives, what mattered to them and what they were interested in, and she was always ready with encouragement.
She never stopped learning. Whether through her book club, learning Spanish and practising every day, or taking an interest in whatever her grandchildren were passionate about, Kathy remained engaged with the world around her. She was immensely proud of her grandchildren, Tyson, Soleil and Tobey, and took great joy in their lives and accomplishments.
Kathy created beauty around her, not only through her own sense of style, but in her home, her surroundings and the way she lived. She had a rare combination of sweetness and fierceness. She was gentle and gracious, but also a fierce protector of the people she loved and of what she believed was right.
In 1972, Kathy married the love of her life, Franz. Together they built a life and a family that meant everything to her. She embraced Dane and Kirby as her own, alongside her son Monte, and loved them with the same fierce devotion that defined so much of who she was.
She will be remembered for her elegance, her strength, her curiosity, her spirit and, most of all, for the way she made people feel.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Kathy are invited to make a contribution to Evergreen Hospice (evgcares.org), in gratitude for the compassionate care she received at the end of her life.
A celebration of life will be held privately with family.
