The music in heaven was greatly enhanced when 74-year-old Jon Lehti appeared at the Pearly Gates, on July 9th, 2025. Jon left us after incredible health struggles which he overcame time after time until it eventually became too much. He has left behind an amazing legacy of music, kindness and love.
Jon was born on May 6, 1951 in Pelkosenniemi, Finland and came to Canada in 1956. He spent most of his formative years in Kirkland Lake where his music was debuted having come from a talented and musical family. The early years had him entertaining in “Christopher Khan,” “Joe Marooney,” “Patches,” “Lehti Brothers,” “Class of 66” and “Jacaranda” bands, to name a few. He never lost his love of music as both instrumentalist and vocalist. One could never calculate the number of hours he spent entertaining others in this world.
He met and married the love of his life, Pat Scully in September of 1974 and they were blessed with 50 years of marriage. They were parents to a bevy of fur babies, and were surrounded by many human nieces and nephews who gave them great joy. Jon was somewhat of a gentle giant and each niece and nephew enjoyed the comfort of his loving embrace.
Jon’s final employment was at “Seaton House” in Toronto working with clients who were homeless and down on their luck; he was a bright light to many of them. He was non-judgemental and treated them with the respect everyone deserves in their lives. He left due to health problems but held the memory of those days close to his heart.
He struggled with many health issues, which began in 2007 but always persevered and pushed through each one with the support of his ever-present and encouraging wife. He had a resilience rarely seen and never ceased to amaze his family and friends as well as the medical community. Jon was predeceased by his parents Veikko and Helvi (Hallikainen) Lehti, parents- in-law Albert and Madeleine (Villeneuve) Scully and his brother-in-law Richard Scully. Left to fill the void of his absence are his wife Pat, brothers Esa (Lynn) and Ilkka (Cathy). He also leaves behind a large family of in-laws, Jack (Mary) Scully, Louise (Roy) Scott, Helene (Rick) Culhane, Donna Scully, Marc (Carol) Scully and Julie (Sean) McFarland. Several nieces and nephews will forever keep their memories of him alive as they grieve their great loss.
Jon’s memory will be celebrated at a later date in a private celebration with the people who brought him joy throughout his life.
