Janet Victoria Hossack (nee Armstrong) 1943 – 2018

It is with deep sadness that the family of Janet Victoria Hossack (n. Armstrong) announces her passing, in her 75th year, on March 2, 2018. She died in hospice at Bridgepoint Healthcare from pancreatic cancer.

Janet is survived by her husband of 54 years, Bill Hossack and her children, Heather (Patrick) Furlong, Christine (David) Lewis and Billy Hossack (Jon Luetkehoelter). Janet was a proud grandma of Aidan and Reese Furlong, Jack (predeceased 2017) and Ainsley Lewis, Liam and Gabriel Hossack.

Janet was born and raised in Oxford Centre near Woodstock, Ontario. Her love of adventure made it easy to appreciate living in many provinces of Canada during the early years of her marriage. In 1976, Janet and Bill settled in Toronto where she raised her children and pursued many interests. When the children were in high school, Janet re-started her career as a High School teacher that extended for over 20 years.

Janet was a gifted quilter, loved Duplicate Bridge, played the ukulele, hiked mountains and managed to hit 5 continents in her lifetime travels. She also instilled a love for travel in her children and grandchildren. Crowe lake was often a place of convergence for friends, family, passions and peace (after labour day).

Janet was an active community member with hours, days and years spent volunteering for the Heart and Kidney Foundation, the Animal Care Committee at UHN, medical missions in central America, quilt making for people with cancer and a 10-year dietary study for breast cancer.

A celebration of Janet’s life will be held on April 21, 2018, 2:00pm at the Donway Covenant United Church in Don Mills, 230 The Donway West, Don Mills (near Lawrence East and Don Mills Rd).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Larry Haughton Fund which is part of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. This particular fund supports research into improving the effectiveness of radiotherapy for pancreatic cancer. Should you choose to donate online, follow the link
