With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Helmut (Joe) Posawetz on October 28, 2026, at Mount Sinai Hospital, at the age of 86.
Joe was born in Germany, moved to Austria at an early age, finally immigrating to Canada in 1959. He first lived with his mother and family in Winnipeg, then moved to Hamilton and finally to the city of his dreams – Toronto. There he met and married his beloved wife, Judi (nee Evans).
His life was not easy, but through hard work and determination, he fulfilled his dream of being self- employed driving a Taxi though the streets of his beloved city. He was so proud to talk about the famous people he drove, including Sidney Porter and Tony Curtis.
He had a rare gift for connection - he was deeply loved by absolutely everyone who met him. And his dachshunds were always close to his heart.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you consider making a donation to one of the following organizations that were close to is heart:
Canadian Dachshund Rescue https://www.Canadiandachshundrescue.com
Sinai Health Foundation (gifts in memory) https://www.sinaihealth.ca
Toronto Humane Society https://www.torontohumanesociety.ca
Special thanks to Dr. Keon, Dr. Safar and the Team B Medical caring staff at Mount Sinai Hospital South 10th floor.
He will be missed by his wife and family. Those who knew Joe are invited to share condolences or memories below.
