GORDON WILLIAM McDONALD 1927 – 2017

GORDON WILLIAM McDONALD

July 11, 1927- September 23, 2017

RCNVR, World War II

My wonderful Dad said goodbye in his 91st year. He is now at peace after his last year at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre. Predeceased by his parents Florence Rose (nee Wale) and William Francis, sisters Phyllis, Margaret, and Jean, and his second wife of 12 years, Gail (nee Allen). Survived by his first wife Doris Margaret McDonald (nee Rose), married for 43 years, his daughter Barbara Rose Langford (Ed.D.), and son-in-law E. Robert Langford (M.D.).

Born in Vanier, Ottawa, he lived in Toronto from 1946 until 1990, then moved to Orangeville. Gordon was a perfectionist, ambitious and hardworking, with a playful sense of humour, and always marched to his own drummer. He joined the RCNVR during WWII at the tender age of 15. He spent 35 years with CNR. Gordon was self-taught in many areas, building 15 homes on his weekends and holidays. He was a member of the Naval Club of Toronto and the Canadian Legion in Orangeville. Gordon loved walks in nature with his 18-year old black Lab, Barney. He excelled in numerous sports, was a star on the dance floor, and enjoyed trading stocks. Gordon volunteered during floods, and fighting fires in the Muskoka area. Dad, thank you for your love and the many skills you taught me. I am proud of you, I will always love you – my Hero.

Dr. Tetiana Tymofiiva and Dr. Nataliia Gileiko were his two Angels who greatly enriched his last year with their expert care and kindness. Sincere thanks to Dr. David Shergold, Kate Dewhurst and team at SVC for their care and compassion.
