Obituary

We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, Florence Bell Sayers (Lane), in her 101st year, at Isabel and Arthur Meighen Manor in Toronto on Friday, February 13th, 2026.

Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep having lived at Meighen Manor for only two and a half months. Mom lived independently in her home until the age of 100 and one half.

Florence was predeceased by her husband, Gordon, who passed away in 2005. Florence and Gordon were married for 61 years after marrying at the age of 18 and 19 during World War II. They had only known each other for two months when they were married. Gordon was in the RAF and was in Toronto for training when he met our mother. After their marriage, mom followed dad to England and worked in the war office to support the cause. Mom and dad returned to Toronto after the war where they started their family and lived for the rest of their lives.

Florence was also predeceased by her parents Clifford and Eveline Lane, sisters Dorothy, Yvonne, and Viola, and her grandchildren Lauren and Matthew Clee. She is survived by her daughters Laren (Brian) Burneman and her daughter Lesley Clee. She is also survived by her five beloved grandchildren: Russell (Jennifer) Burneman, Nikole (Ole) Chrysler, Andrew (Erin) Clee, Alex (Autumn) Clee, and Patrick (Katie) Clee. Mom was fortunate enough to be a great-grandmother to Nikole's children Michael, Bella, and Mya, Andrew's children Charlie, and Audrey, and Alex's son Walker (the newest addition to her family). Mom loved her family dearly, speaking with her daughters every day and spending as much time as she could with her grandcildren. She was never happier than when she attended a family gathering.

Mom was raised during the depression and left school at the end of Grade 9 to help support her family. After staying home with her young family until 1958, she joined CIBC as a teller. She excelled at her job and received many promotions, finishing her career as a branch bank manager upon her retirement in 1988.

Mom loved to knit, travel, and shop. We are lucky enough to have some of her creations which we will treasure forever. Mom and dad loved to cruise and her love of shopping is evident by the many jewelry purchases that were made on their cruises.

Mom was a wonderful person who lived for her family and will sadly be missed.

Thank you to the wonderful caring nursing staff at Isabel and Arthur Meighen Manor (particularly Candy and Emma).

As per mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held when she is laid to rest beside our father.

As her mother always told her:

LIFE IS A JOURNEY HOMEWARD BOUND
