ELIZABETH ANN TINGLEY (December 11, 1952 – February 1, 2024)
Elizabeth (or Libby as she was known to many) was the daughter of Blair and Mime Tingley.
Born in Moncton, NB, Libby lived her early years in Lower Coverdale, and later moved to Nova Scotia where she studied and worked for a number of years. In both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia she made enduring friendships. Libby had the pleasure of traveling to, and living and working in other parts of Canada and Europe. She particularly loved Albert County, NB, which she faithfully visited for much of her life. She never grew tired of its scenic beauty, and in particular the spectacular tides of the Bay of Fundy.
In 1986, Libby and her husband, Bruce Grant, moved to Toronto to join her sister Janet. Libby developed a deep appreciation of the City’s ravines, parks and gardens and devoted many enjoyable hours to hiking and exploring the city. Libby made a number of close friends through her work at the Toronto Public Library. Their loyalty meant a great deal to her. This work also fostered a tremendous appreciation for the people who come from all over the world to make Toronto their home.
Libby oversaw the care of Bruce Grant for many years following illness that significantly impacted him midlife. She enjoyed his friendship and humour that endured despite his illness.
With thanks the staff of Princess Margaret Hospital for their excellent care and treatment and to all the medical staff in the community including Bridgepoint Hospital as well as friends who helped Libby during her illness.
Libby is survived by her sister Janet, and brothers John (Denise) and Bruce (Tanya) and nieces Emily, Jade and nephews Blair and Jordy and great nephews Ben, Brooks and Eddie.
Any person who wishes to make a memorial donation may consider a humanitarian or environmental organization of their choice.
Condolences may be sent to Janet Tingley, 55 Sugarloaf Court, Riverview, NB E1B 0P7.
