Eligio Martínez Gómez

August 13, 1974 — April 27, 2025

We joyfully celebrate the vibrant, unforgettable life of Eligio “Toto” Martínez Gómez, even as we grieve his tragic passing on April 27, 2025, at the age of 50.

Born in Panama and raised in Canada, Toto was full of life, laughter, and heart. With his bold Latin spirit and a smile that could light up any room, he was always joking, always making people laugh, and always showing up for those he loved. Whether he knew you for a moment or a lifetime, he had a way of making you feel seen and welcomed.

Eligio was no stranger to hardship, but through every challenge, he worked hard and gave generously of himself. He was the kind of person who, even when carrying his own burdens, would do whatever he could to help someone else. His resilience, selflessness, and determination were constant threads woven through his life.

He carried deep pride in his role as an uncle and was especially proud of his nieces and nephews, whose lives and accomplishments brought him immense joy.

In his final days, Eligio found peace in a relationship with Jesus—an encounter that brought him comfort and quiet strength. His faith, found at the end of his journey, became a powerful part of his story.

He had a special place in his heart for his maternal grandparents and often spoke of them with love. He was preceded in death by Alfonso and Teresa, whose memory he cherished deeply.

Eligio is survived by his parents, his sister, and his brothers, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and loving friends in Panama, Canada, and beyond. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love.

Though his life ended too soon, his story lives on—in every memory shared, every heart he touched, and in the peace he now knows in the presence of the Savior. We hope his life reminds others that even in pain, no one is ever truly alone. You are seen. You are loved.

A small private memorial will be held in the United States on May 24th by his sister, brother-in-law, nephew, and nieces. His ashes will then be flown home to David, Chiriquí, Panama, where a funeral will take place on May 31st, surrounded by family and childhood friends.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
—2 Timothy 4:7
