Dennis Hill

Dennis Hill, aka DD Hill, August 3, 1946 – February 11, 2026

Part of Canada’s music and entertainment industry for half a century, Dennis was known for his professionalism, expertise, and cooperative spirit. He worked as a recording engineer/mixer, stage manager, sound recordist, and drummer (among other things) in the course of his career.

Born in Solihull England, Dennis arrived in Canada as a toddler. He grew up in Scarborough, ON, where he also lived for the last thirty years of his life. As Yorkville was taking off in the mid 1960s, he arrived in his van, grew his hair as long as possible, and joined a band (Drive) as a drummer. Soon after, he stage-managed some the most epic events in Canadian music history - Pop Festival 69, The Rock ‘n Roll Revival, and Festival Express - for Eaton-Walker Associates. He was also the stage manager at Toronto’s legendary Rock Pile (Masonic Temple) where he interacted with some of the world’s top music legends. He had stories. He also worked in various capacities for some of Canada’s most popular bands, including the Stampeders, and Lighthouse. Great Shakes Productions, the recording studio he built for his artist wife, Eva Everything, became a popular Toronto destination for reggae and ska greats, and received several Canadian Reggae Music Awards for Best Studio. After closing the studio, DD immersed himself in sound for film and TV and won both a Gemini and a Golden Reel Award for his work. He played drums and percussion on Eva’s recordings and appeared in her music videos. He was also her sous chef, garden helper, assistant butterfly rescuer, and dog grooming wrangler. Dennis will be missed every single day for the rest of their lives by Eva and toy poodle Archie. Dennis is survived by his brother Martin (Margaret), nephew Trevor (April, Taylor & Eliot), niece Sarah (Owen, Michaela & Sam) as well as family in Canada, England, and the USA, including cousins Joe Bradford, Margaret Lintern, Mary Sexstone, and Karen Covillo. 

His cremains were buried in Eva’s family plot during a private gathering on what would have been his 80 th birthday.
