Arno Adolf Sigrist

December 16, 1931 — May 13, 2025

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Arno Adolf Sigrist on May 13, 2025, in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 93. He is survived by his beloved Joyce (Docksteader) of 65 years, daughters Julia Ross (Kim), Susan (Mark Hubbard). Proud Papa of Stephanie Ross and Grandpa of Melissa and Daniel Hubbard. Survived by cousins Reiner and Dieter (Klärli) Selz, sisters-in-law Pat Pilon and Cheryl Docksteader, and nieces and nephews Bettina (Henning), Constantin, Lucian, Debbie (Warren), Valerie, Nancy (Mike), Angela (Kevin), Rob (Debbie), Christine, Jennifer, Tim, Tammy (Rick), Ron, Tara, and Doug. Predeceased by mother Frida (Sulzmann), father Adolf of Switzerland, sister Margot (Bertold) Ende, in-laws Harvey (Shirley), Shirley, Betty (Rufus), Bob, Ronnie and dear friend Harry.

Arno was born and raised in Basel, Switzerland Dec. 16 1931. He completed his apprenticeship in radio and television electronics in 1950 working in his field. In ‘57 he chose to explore a new country, arriving in French Quebec on September 17. He followed Swiss friends to Toronto and joined Muzak, Chum Satellite Business Music, Stingray360 in June ‘58. Arno progressed from repair to installation to design of audio and PA systems. He then found his calling in Sales. Arno retired in 2005 but continued as Sales Consultant for almost a decade mentoring and extending customer relationships built on trust.

Like his father, Arno had a technical mind and natural talent to fix anything electrical or mechanical. No repair was too big or too complex.

Arno never forgot his Swiss heritage. He was an integral member of the Swiss Club Toronto volunteering as President of the Men’s Section and Canadysli Band. This earned him awards from the Swiss community including Swiss Citizen of the Year and Longest Personal Member of the Swiss Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

Arno always wanted to play the drum, but it was only when he joined Canadysli in Toronto that he learned. He looked forward to each practice, and annual Morgestraich, Fasnacht Ball and First of August Celebration with bandmates and fans. Arno could always be seen with a big smile playing his Drummle and selling Fasnacht buttons. Arno organized tours and events for the Men’s Section and kept the signature weekly Kaffi Klatsch (social gathering for coffee and conversation) running even through COVID.

With his practicality, efficiency and calm attitude Arno was repeatedly elected President of his Condo Board.

Arno was positive, kind-hearted and immensely loved. He stayed young by being inquisitive and remaining involved and connected with past colleagues, friends, family and the next generations.

Many thanks to the medical teams at both Sunnybrook and North York General Hospital for the wonderful care over the years.

In lieu of flowers donations to Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation, North York General Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice are gratefully appreciated.
